This indeed is a forward-thinking approach, it’s also great to hear that you’re thinking deeply about international donations and tax-deductibility.
Regarding cross-border tax-deductible donations, are there any specific countries or regions where you’re seeing more interest from donors? Are there any countries that you anticipate being particularly difficult to onboard into this system due to local tax laws or regulations?
Oddly enough, our two founding team members live in one of the more complicated regions for blockchain right now, the United States. Right now the regulatory environment is difficult for blockchain companies in the US- this is our main motivation for being very careful about taking a proactive approach to regulatory compliance. To give you a specific example of this- we made the conscious decision not to issue a token yet, even though it would have probably been helpful to fund our project’s development, because looking ahead there might be some implications with registering as a security.
The other region that seems to be a bit more restrictive or regressive is North Africa, specifically Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. We have potential nonprofit partners in each of these countries (women’s argan oil cooperatives in Morocco, reforestation in Tunisia and a nonprofit working with street children and beggars in Cairo) but the regulatory environment is such that we are steering clear of those countries for now.
The US is also where we have the most nonprofit partners, naturally. But it’s far from the most favorable environment for a blockchain startup.
However, our areas of greatest interest and opportunity are West Africa, especially Nigeria, Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia, Malaysia and Phillippines, and Latin America and the Caribbean, especially Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Brazil. These governments are all starting pilots with digital payments, and taking a more pro-active approach to blockchain regulation.
From the user point of view, these countries present us with the most opportunity- populations where consumers are more familiar with blockchain technology, where there is also a great opportunity to make a positive impact both socially and environmentally. To that end, we have connections in all of these countries with nonprofit partners and pilot projects in mind.
Hey wait Manfred, I just realized we are having this conversation in the TronAid X comment thread, not GiveTron! Should we move this conversation to GiveTron?
Is it possible that other commenters might be getting GiveTron and TronAidX mixed up?
It looks like TronAidX didn’t finish their minimum viable product or DevPost link in time.
Damn, I just noticed that at about the exact same time I saw this comment
Did your submission done on dev post ? Date is over and your dev post link is not updated in above post
Hey, the project sounds great! One suggestion: since there’s no live link or DevPost yet, it would be awesome to get those up soon. That way, people can explore the platform and give feedback more easily. Adding those would really help in getting better suggestions and improving the project!
