Chums Chat: Your Secure Bridge to the Web3 World

We’re interested in partnering with Web3 communities, and naturally, we provide all the plugins needed to upgrade a Matrix server to Web3 capabilities at no cost

Our monetization is based on fees for on-chain transactions within Chums

Hey team,

It’s a great privilege to be on both Android and iOS. I usually run my mobile applications on desktop. Is such an integration possible for you? If not, are you planning it?

aND how do you plan to increase downloads through advertising on Google Play and App Store?

Hi!

Yes, we’re also developing a desktop version of Chums, with the release planned for this quarter.

Currently, we’re not considering paid advertising for the app. Instead, we’re focused on building mutually beneficial partnerships with Web3 communities to drive shared growth.

That’s nice, at least it will break the barrier in users creating their own server. Thank you for the reply

I’d be waiting for it so I can test it asap.

All clear bud, your team your plan. Partnerships maybe boost y faster than ads, who knows. May fortune favor you

Hey there, my two cents, currently the majority of crypto users are using telegram as their day-to-day messaging app, I believe the hardest hurdle you will face is on having them use chums chat instead of telegram…
Why would they move to another platform If all their friends and partners are in telegram? same happens with Whatsapp for example with non crypto users (especially on North America) why would they use telegram if their friends and family are in Whatsapp?

You need to focus on what you can offer that others don’t and make it appealing for your users. It has great potential but also big player in the market  and this is not only for TRON but for any other blockchain I believe

I wish you the best!

I see a very complex Social project, but can you explain in few words, how you integrate the TRON ? like i don’t think that all messages are onchain, so how you use the TRON in your app ?

I’m really impressed with what your team has achieved so far and you’ve made some great progress. Will be seeing you on the voting ground :eyes:

Hi!

Chums is based on the Matrix protocol, providing end-to-end encrypted messaging, file sharing, and voice/video calls.

We’re adding a “Web3 layer” to a vanilla Matrix server, allowing the server owner to connect blockchains through our plugins. This means that when users log in with Chums, Web3 features activate. The feature set depends on the depth of integration between Chums and each blockchain.

During the hackathon, we built a bridge to a fourth blockchain—TRON. Now, users on the chums.chat server can connect their TRON wallet and transfer tokens directly within the chat interface.

We aim to continue TRON integration and recently proposed a few possible server use cases.

The server’s purpose can vary, determining the specific features, integrations, and user flows.

Hello team, I am testing your project now and the creation of account is seamless although I hard difficulty initially because I tried using an uppercase in my name first alphabet. I don’t know why the whole alphabets should be lowercase in creating an account in your platform.
After creating an account, this happened, a group created on my behalf and some settings done without me taking any action. Is this ok?
It’s better you set this as a default setting than mentioning that a user made the settings even when the user didn’t take any action.

I proceeded to create a wallet and after that, I couldn’t see Tron and this makes me start thinking if your project is already running on Ever net than on Tron?

While trying to add a coin through the Add coin button, the whole page is blanked. Is there anything I am not doing correct on my end?

Hi! Thank you for testing and for your feedback :hugs:

The Matrix protocol standard does not allow usernames with uppercase letters.

While it’s possible to automatically convert them to lowercase on the frontend, we believe users should have control over how they name themselves.

We want to add a UI prompt for this, and it’s already in our backlog, but the backlog is pretty big right now

Yes, this is normal; it’s a characteristic of the Matrix protocol. This occurs once when a room is created, and at each step of the pipeline, the Matrix server sends service messages about applied settings.

On the frontend, we could hide these messages or render them differently.

However, experienced Matrix users might find it unusual if these messages are missing.

Ideally, it would be best to make this an option at the layout level - we plan to offer users different UI/UX options based on their needs and server functionality.

Of course, the TRON network is onboard!

Chums.chat is our home server and isn’t customized for a specific community, so we’ve connected multiple blockchains to it.

To connect a TRON wallet:

Swipe left where wallets are displayed

Tap the plus icon to add a new wallet

Select TRON and tap Connect

Done!

The available tokens can be added by tapping Add Coin.

The same process applies for the Ethereum network :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh, that’s a rare bug with the Everscale wallet  We’re actively looking into it - it could be something with their API or an issue on our end.

This is how it should look:

However, adding coins in the TRON and Ethereum wallets should work fine!

The NFT club is a token gated discussion using a trc721, right. Can it be done with a trc20, and, more importantly with a fixed threshold of a particular trc20 to be held?

Hi! Yep, we’re working on that feature. It’ll be included in a future release, not the upcoming one. That release should be out by late November or early December.

Ok please let users have the feature of controlling how to name themselves. Person like me always find it odd to start my name with a lowercase letter and this could be a off for me.

I am of the opinion that it will be best if such settings are hidden from the public view. Example when a telegram user creates a group, there are some default settings that are activated but do not flood the group with the settings. This makes the group appear so neat. Please consider having a settings tab where the channel creators can access to see the default settings in use

Ok that was nice. I tried it now and it worked on Tron network. I don’t know why it didn’t work with your Everscale chain. You can try working on it
