We often talk about keeping the forum alive between 2 hackathons and how hard it is to keep users around.
Would it be an ok solution to remove users Basic badge if they haven’t been connected to the forum for more than some time ( 1 or 2 months for instance) and haven’t sent a minimum of xxx messages for the past xxx months?
Would that be motivating? Or in the contrary frustrating to lose a basic badge and have to spend some time again to get it back and being able to vote?
Honestly this is really a great idea, when there is a problem I believe there would be also a solution to tackle it, issues like this needs to be dealt with,… imagine a person will be fighting to get a basic badge only for him to vote and run the new time you will see them is another season only if there favorites projects were available, so its good to loose it if you are not active so that you can work hard to get it back if you still values it
I wanted to avoid this topic because I thought everyone will be in total support of it without looking at the consequence it will have on this forum, but seeing @Gordian giving concern on its consequence made me to jump in. I will not deny the fact that this idea is a great one but have it’s disadvantage too. One is the issue of spamming which will make this forum to become more of a spam zone, and the other is that it will affect a lot of genuine people in the community who choose to only study project post without actively engaging with the post. People like @Dendorion@Deba215 etc will certainly be affected with this solution and we all know that these are genuine people but because of their active engagements in other platforms, they lacks actively participation in the forum discussions. The best, imo, should be having the biometrics data as we have been discussing already to prevent bots from influencing the votes.
I think they both come from time to time, especially in the pre-vote period to catch up with new participants entries. That should be sufficient to keep the badge. Also they are both level 2 so they wouldn’t be impacted.
Ohh I see. So only basic one users get demoted?
Then it becomes a temporary solution too because fraudsters will do the unthinkable to reach level 2 just to retain it’s permanent status and get prepared for voting. This is really a hard knot to crack
If I may ask, what happens on the forum after the hackathon phase?
If it’s usually empty with no traction I think removing basic badge will affect a lot of people. But at the same time I can’t deny it’s a good way to filter out bots
There is no perfect solution. But level 2 is far from being easy to reach. To get 50 profiles fraudsters would take months or years. But at the first mistake they get banned in one click. Not sure it would be worthy to try tricking the system
This might be one of the most logical suggestions I’ve seen so far. I also have a better suggestion regarding the duration. Normally, a 1-2 month period is very logical. The voting period can be reduced to 1 week. In this way, if someone has a lot of bots, they will have to constantly update, which will most likely result in increasing the similarity in activity on these accounts.
