dCloud Lite + dCloud Mobile

Thank you for the support! we haven’t set next steps priorities in stone but we can list some planned updates as follows:

  1. Update Android SDK and React Native SDK (Already good progress on this)

  2. Improve user experience during files upload process

  3. Release reformatted versions for macOS and windows (desktop environments)

  4. Release an MVP version (dCloud light ) of WebAssembly binary. Need to wait until critical changes comes from golang compiler first, that’s why priority is lower at this point on this one.

Appreciate your support! We have our vision clear and this includes open source software always and realistic milestones but at the same time challenging

I loved your app and as always you deliver a lot of value.

I cast a vote for you  in the community votes as I consider your entry to be at the top!

I truly see the value that this project can have beyond the hackathon!

I still have 2 questions/suggestions:

  1. I could not see a share button so the tech does not allow me to share the data with other users. I mean like a link access to my photo…?
  2. It would be nice to have the same address/same account shared between platforms… So for example to access the same file between my PC, my Andoid device and why not my computer or web access? That’s why I asked about the address that is used… - you could do that with walleConnect maybe…

With respect,
onchaindev :white_heart:

Can this create a system that allows one to sell storage, to others. Or is it just a personal storage app

  1. The share button is a top priority to implement in the next dCloud release, right now you can copy the CID to share either after upload is completed or going to the dWeb tab and going to the files section. We know it’s not convenient enough and will create a share button soon . The reason why it’s not done already is because mapping the complete dCloud app filesystem to BTFS files paths it’s not as trivial as it seems, react native filesystem library does not allow us to add additional key elements per file and we will have to do the whole processing and database by scratch to ensure proper linking.

  2. About sharing the same node id and BTTC addresses between systems is indeed possible but not easy to achieve by non technical people hehe. I will check the wallet connect suggestion or other alternatives for users to make it easier

Thanks for your feedback and proposals!!

@cctechmx Its good to see progress.

  • Could you elaborate on the improvements made to dCloud Mobile?

You can use dCloud as host to sell storage , however that will required your phone screen to be ON indefinitely and no significant usage beyond dCloud as Android system might shut down the app to save resources and limit battery usage.

Current focus of the app is to serve as a file management and uploading tool. However on the future we will improve background processing to avoid Android limiting resources to the app and it can serve better to sell your storage.

Sure!
For details you can check at our releases history in github from version v1.5.5 to v1.6.0. dCloud is totally open source:

In summary we:

  • improved the way a node and BTTC wallet are created, in the past the user had to perform several manual operations the first time they used dCloud, now this process if fully automated and only a couple.

  • Added Google Play support and uploaded the app in the store (this was not possible in the past due to major compatibility issues on how network processing are done in BTFS and Google forcing developers to explore different alternatives.

  • General User Interface improvements in wallet screen.

Right now we are still going trough beta test phase of dCloud, progress is being made from the BitTorrent team to enable encryption when uploading files, rest assured that as soon as encryption is available we will enable privacy by default by activating encryption on your files uploading. If for some reason BitTorrent does not implement it soon we will add a privacy layer in dCloud

Thank you for sharing. I am reviewing this project based on the introduction text and a brief review of the code. And the YouTube videos inside the notes.

This is an ongoing project. And the main improvements for S5 here are CID file downloads and adopting Google Play SDK 30 to work on the Google Play store.

It is looking great with the new file browser and upload animation. And a practical tool for uploading. I would also like to see videos explaining how downloading works on another device.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback fulldecent! It is indeed a good idea to show how to download for another device, I might have a video already available, will post it here shortly

Thank you for the positive feedback  We will continue working hard to bring higher adoption for BTFS

Best regards!

Hello,

I tried testing the the Android version of the app however, after sending the initialization BTT to the address shown, the app hangs at the “setup your wallet” stage and I am unable to proceed the the next step or access the wallet. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello , thank you for trying our app! Please send me your BTTC address by dm and also share a picture of the screen in which it gets stucked to get a better idea on what’s going on. Thank you!

I’d like to thank the community and trondao team for the support and opportunity. Without your support and interest in dCloud we wouldn’t be where we are! We won’t stop building to increase BTFS reach and adoption.

Cheers and again, thank you!!
