Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated on May 22nd each year to the first real-world commercial transaction using Bitcoin.
On this day in 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz, a programmer and early Bitcoin miner, paid 10,000 Bitcoins for two large pizzas from Papa John’s. At the time, the value of 10,000 Bitcoins was $41.
Today, that same amount of Bitcoin would be worth over $690 million.
Hanyecz has said that he has no regrets about using his Bitcoin to buy pizza, and that he is glad to have played a role in helping to legitimize Bitcoin as a form of currency.
I DO THINK, THIS WAS A BIG FORM OF BTC ADVERTISEMENT, PROMOTION, AND AWARENESS
