HackaTRON S3 community topics - $5K in prizes!

I think to prevent all these bots, fake users and last minute supernatural over taken, the @admin.hackathon and @trondao for that matter should shorten the days for voting to one day.

A country like Ghana with 32million and 15million eligible voter population handles voting from 7a.m to 5pm

What is with all these days, what does the number of days seem to achieve, to me it achieve one thing “spammers”

How long does it take to really decide on a project to vote for, we started checking out these projects right from the very first day they submitted their projects.

I had quite an ample time to try some of these projects. Someone will join today, stay for about two hours, get the basic badge and start voting. Voting for what really, what at all did they check within that small time to know if a project is good or just mouth talk.

As @fabsltsa said, someone joined and asked what the forum is even about.
Someone also joined and had no idea about cryptocurrency, he just joined because a friend said he should.

If we truly want projects that really deserve to win the ultimate price come out on top, we should be ready to take the bold decision and wipe out those who just joined few days or in some cases few hours to vote.

If this is done it will even one way or the other help some of the team to build a community and not just bring in random people to the scene to come and vote and leave.

Also we can create a portal where to be eligible to vote, you will have to answer some basic questions on the projects that qualified.

If you pass the question, you will be given a code, if u fail, u go back, learn about the projects well amd come again and answer.

Just like what binance does when u want to trade futures, if u don’t pass the futures question. U cant use the futures functions.

I hope @TronLive takes note, the @tronbot can be assign to give jumble questions to each user who tries to vote.

I am really disappointed to see voters joining in last five days and taking the project to a winning position.

And i see projects with really nothing done, no community engagement and still managed to end up in top 5.

Its very strange and most of them came not even knowing what the forum is about in the first place. All they were interested in was TL1.

Season 4 is just around the corner and i know all the grievances raised here will be addressed by the team.

This is amazing. We keep pushing :ok_hand:

Hey all, since the definition of “significant update” to a project was mentioned quite a few times on the hackathon community poll and here by @Sirluke @fabsltsa and @Deba215, let’s talk about it more. Although admin.hackathon already mentioned part of what they are looking for in an existing hackathon project here, let’s see if we as the community can give a clear definition of “significant update”, which the team may be able to use it within the S4 rules.

Q. A lot of existing hackathon projects couldn’t make it to the eligible project list and one of the reasons is that they have not made a “significant update” to their existing projects. How should we define “significant update”?

Q. Although the hackathon team will look into all voters closely and remove suspicious votes from the calculation like what we did in S2, which projects that are on the current voting list do you think require extra attention? Please also state the reasons.

Q1:
A new product offering. Imagine that Google participates, I think a significant update would be if they launched a new product (for example Gmail before they had Gmail, or Chrome before they had Chrome). What would not qualify as a significant update would in my view be if they changed some parameters in Google Search.

Q2:
No idea, the 2 most suspicious ones are the ones that are already disqualified in my opinion.

This is really a tough one and very subjective, as i always do, i will give several options maybe one of them will help.

What do we mean by “significant update”?
Let take Apple phones :iphone: for instance, every year there is a new upgrade from 7,7s,7s plus to 8 and so on.
Does each update comes with unique features? Yes they do! And we say they are innovative.

This same Apple company does not only produce phones :iphone:, they have laptops :computer:, iPads, iPods etc. creating variety day in and day out.

The same company yet creating innovations in two different dimensions.

How is this relevant to the above question?
A project may build on top of existing ones others too might bring something new and totally different to the table.

I would suggest a category to be created for projects that are trying to build on top of old one.
They should not be in the midst of those that are bringing something totally new to the table.
Old teams can bring new products, but an old team that adds something new to previous project should be in the category i just made mention of.

This will make the game a bit fair in my opinion.

Also categories should not be repeated every season, i know some projects that are always bringing NFTs, no web3, no defi, no gamefi, always NFTs.

It shouldn’t be so, if u bring NFTs this season, u have exhausted the NFT slot, next season bring something different in another category. If u cant sit back and enjoy those who can.

There are some wonderful projects that i know will personally bring alot of adoption to tron blockchain if they get the needed support and attention.

A project like #TuruVerse from @TuruGlobal is one of a kind, a metaverse that consist of cinemas, shopping centres, galleries, gaming lounge etc.
its not easy to do this but the team are very dedicated and doing it to their utmost best.

Also i will make mention of #interpool from @Claw and @Perrin in the ecosystem track.
A betting game where there are no losers, such projects should be given much attention, sports betting is played and enjoyed all over the world, losing is always painful, but what if u r always making profit, who wouldnt want to play this.

Again #tronhub from @Stian, #Tboost from @Sirluke, #trxmini from @nickmura and @Fuzzy-Ocean, these to me deserve some support.

Thank you.

I think having new specific rules for previous participants (winners or not) or new categories for them will denature the spirit of the competition which is, in my opinion, giving a push to the products that tomorrow will help the ecosystem to grow, no matter who have built them.

I will repeat myself here: if we create new categories, where will the funds come from? Do we really need it?

Besides an other question is: why would a new product built on top of something else be judged differently than the same product built by a new team?

Let me explain. For the season 2, JustMoney has built a payment gateway (payment links, checkout, QR code, donation button).
I’ve suggested to add recurring payments for companies that want to pay salaries in crypto. We’ve finally decided that there was no rush about it and we could do it later since we give the priority to the products that will have a larger impact on the crypto community. Few companies pay salaries in crypto while everybody would like to use crypto as a way of payment.
Then, Calamus joined the hackathon and presented a recurring payment system. They’ve won the #2 from the judges. So it has been estimated that this product was eligible to participate and get a prize.
If now, JustMoney decides to present its own recurring payment system on top of JM Pay, why would it be considered differently or “less eligible”?
Anyway we have not planned to do it and if we do it, it probably won’t be presented for a hackathon. But you understand my point? A same product can be built on top of something else or presented by itself. Hence my previous answer to @TronLive : a significant improvement of an existing product in my opinion should be something that could be presented as a new product, e.g. a recurring payment system built on top of JM Pay, a DEX analytic tools built on top of Intercrone swap, a decentralized social network built on top of LionX Music Dao, some games incorporated in a crypto media like Tron Weekly Journal,…

New teams to the hackathon fear they dont stand a chance when they compete against the big fishes in the game who keeps building on top and presenting something formidable as the seasons go by.

But hey this is a hackathon, u can’t tell USAIN BOLT to be taken out of a race just because he keeps winning gold and therefore serves as a disadvantage to those who win Aluminium.
He keeps winning because he is always preparing, setting records and breaking them.

I understand where u r coming from.

I like the parallel with Usain Bolt :joy:

I understand that new teams can have a feeling of inequality. And I’ve answered about it already a bunch of times in other topics like this one Is the hackathon a fair contest?

Don’t hesitate to have a look at it :+1:

I would come back to answer the first question, but before that I have a series of observation.

I’ll start from DeFi category, one project at a time.
I’ll try to present some facts as we can see right now. The decision is upto the community and TRON DAO.

SYNERGY - Burn Synths, Not Nature!

  • The project post on forum was created on November 13th 2022, just a day before the submission. This indicates the community has not got any time to learn about the project during the Hackathon.
  • Engagement:-
    27 replies to their post.

12 replies were made by users who are yet to receive a basic badge.

9 replies by the project topic creator @Gernar

  • Their project page has been opened by only 13 users from the voting post.
  • In order to finish at 2nd position in DeFi category, the project received 53 votes. Let’s see at the breakdown of who voted for the project.
  • Out of last 14 votes the project received, 11 votes were by users who joined on last 2 days of voting.
  • These 11 votes are 20% of the total votes they received.

GameFi category, I suspect that the project Zombax is not legit but do not have any conclusive evidence and this could only be my doubt.

NFT category has got 627 unique voters highest among all other categories. The chances of more bots being used to vote could be as high as 40%.

To identify a specific project without tools seems difficult but the team could check the voters profile and try to answer the huge difference in unique voters.

Garble money has got great engagement during the Hackathon and the community loves the project.
But surprisingly the link to the project has never been clicked.

My assumption is it should be glitch.

On the contrary projects with similar engagement has been clicked 100 & 70 times by unique users.

Just checked it out and its quite insightful. Let the new be mixed with the old and battle it out.

No one stays new forever, very soon all the project will be old so will there be no hackathon.?

If you fear competition, don’t enter one in the first place.
Some projects are very new, they came with quality projects and some of them are even overtaken some old projects.

For you to survive, build a strong community around your project, dont be an island of your own self.

As I’ve stated in a separate thread, in S3 only 5 out of 30 of the top voted projects were actually awarded in previous editions (TRON Grand Hackathon Season 3 - Community Vote - #614 by Sirluke). This shows that new teams have all the chances they need to prove themselves. So I agree with @fabsltsa that we don’t need special rules or categories for established projects, we only need a clear definition of what is eligible and what’s not.

Regarding the questions from @TronLive:
1- What’s a significant update? For me it’s a new product, something that could be presented even if the preexisting developments where not there. Something that can stand on its own feet. Not a restyling, not a rebranding, not some parameters change, not a minor addition to the functionalities.
[EDIT] All submissions should be working on mainnet with all intended functionalities and accessible to user

2- Projects that require attention. I have not gone deep into all top voted projects but I think a couple need some investigation:

  • G5 Zombax was already developed in ETH, participated in another hackathon and won 2nd place, so it’s either a clone (nothing new) or it should be presented in the ecosystem track (@Deba215 found it)
Here is the link of the ETH Project - Zombie Smash | Devpost
  • A3 Vodoo Finance. They applied also for the EVMOS Devpost hackathon (Voodoo Finance | Devpost). It’s strange that the app link in the above page now points to the BTTC version, not the EVMOS one. I don’t think they launched on EVMOS and just skipped and went to BTTC?
Also Haunted finance project looks the same from the same team (Haunted Finance | Devpost)
Also, we don’t need another clone of Tomb finance. All the previous failed miserably.

Lol :rofl: thats quite an observation from your end.

Also the zombax on devpost is zombiesmah.io but what we have at the forum here is zombax.io

Are they the same projects, or entirely different?
