It’s great to see so many thoughtful answers from the sideline and the ongoing discussions. We will surely note this down and discuss it in-depth with the team. Although we are not involved in sanitizing community votes, we are in close contact with the vote forensics team and have some insights. Let us discuss the current issues that arise by giving another set of questions before the winners’ announcement.
9. We were told that the number of not-so-genuine voters has increased this season. It is obvious that their sole purpose is to register an account, only show up during voting season, and leave right after. They aren’t bots, they aren’t duplicated accounts, they are just “pure-voters.” What do you suggest the team should do about these accounts?
10. It’s obvious that TRON DAO wants projects to make a project post towards the beginning of the HackaTRON so the project can engage with the community, take their input and grow together. However, many projects chose to sign up last minute and don’t care much about engaging with the community. Do you have any suggestions to improve this situation?
11. This season, there’s a new addition - demo week. During demo week, VC or our HackaTRON sponsor will have private call with the team to discuss on potential extra funding as investment. We may even have some public twitter spaces online with some winner teams, do we have much interest from the community to attend spaces like this? Do you have other recommendations?
12. As a general TRON users, how do you find the current energy situation within TRON? TRON has a unique resource model that lets people transact or even interact smart contract for free. However, new users find it hard to get started. Some find the cost is rising if they don’t have enough stake. What’s your take on this? Do you hold back on interacting with smart contract because of cost? Or is it more because you don’t find the app attractive/safe?
My question is what they did they read and uses as a reason for voting for Project A or B. we will see 10 to 50 active members, helping to shape submissions and during voting 200+ will come out to vote. To increase community engagement and fair voting (somehow better), I suggest aside getting the basic badge, a member must be active from the time we start the Hackatron to at least voting period. If you can’t check all or most of the projects here how do you then vote for real builders. Check logins date, if for about 3 months only 1 login or less than 5 logins just to vote Kindly delete them all. Thank you
You need those voters being active here.
Numerous posts have been created on this by community members. I hope community engagement is a factor in selecting winners and that should go against them. Those with fewer community engagement because of late submissions should have some points deducted.
Surely, I will join the Twitter spaces to listen to the teams we have here
Frankly speaking #Tron is no more cheap. It’s becoming expensive to some of us. New users find it difficult because this energy thing is only in tron and not common but if education is given to them, platforms like tronnrg from @TronNinjas and Brutus bot make it more easier.
Some projects wait the last minute because they want to be as ready as possible before revealing the project to the community. They don’t want to have a presentation full of « to be updated ». But once they are live they should interact. Answer questions is the minimum respect.
Yes
I miss early 2021 when I could make several tx without having to stake a big amount and if I ran out of energy it was anyways 1 or 2 cents a tx. Now a swap is like 10 bucks without energy.
PS: @Gordian told me an average salary for a casual job is about $20 per month in Nigeria. If you want to bank the unbanked don’t take half their salary as network fees on one swap…
This is has been an issues we started having from day 1 of the HackaTron. Though I believe that there is less occurrence of this issue than previous seasons, yet one can’t argue that it didn’t occur. To solve this, let there be a criteria for a number of comments an account will make in the forum before the account will be eligible to vote. Let’s say before an account will be eligible to vote, the account will make a minimum of 100 comments in the forum. This way, it will even reduce the chances of multiple accounts for the purpose of voting.
I have read a contributor raising this issue here and I totally agree with that. The issue here started from hackathon participants not having to provide their hackathon post on a one time post creation. Personally, this is giving me much hard time in reviewing those post. Let the team begin announcing the start of every hackathon at least a month before commencement of the hackathon and advice the participants to use that period in preparing their post, making post creation a one time event or giving a grace of one week for post modifications. Then, making lack of engagements with the community a disqualifying offence.
This is a nice approach and it will be great to let the community in on this, to have one-on-one live chat with the winners.
The energy market has been one of the unique selling points for the blockchain, but recent developments are making this irrelevant. For example, I could remember when I use to stake a few thousand TRX and have enough energy to make a transaction and smart contract interactions but that is not the case now. This ‘slightly’ high cost in obtaining energy has made it somehow impossible for newbies to enjoy this unique feature as the only option they have is to pay TRX to obtain energy from platforms like TronNrg and Brutus or pay some bucks to interact with the network. Let the team review this and if possible cut the cost of the energy market to accommodate low budget users and equally aid in onboarding new users.
It should be clear to anyone that voters are different from participants. I did a quick check on past editions voting: S2 about 650 voters, S3 400, S4 400, S5 550, S6 400. This season was not particularly different from the past. If we change the rules to allow voting only for active members the number would probably be around 10-20 at most. The forum is dead between hackathon editions. Cheaters should be removed as usual, but real people that just show up for voting are valid. Some of those accounts were created at the time of the first edition, we should be happy they still show up for the hackathon.
An additional deadline could be implemented. Instead of having only the final deadline for submission there could be an early one where at least the project title.and broad description mist be provided.
Nothing on this
This is a problem for user acceptance especially in some parts of the world. The energy model works but it’s not easy to understand. The wallet integration is still lacking (e.g. if the fees are paid by the contract the user still sees the estimate of the cost which is wrong). Better integration would be good for the users but bad for the ecosystem since only one market will become dominant. There’s no easy solution for this, except lowering the fees
Requiring a minimum number of comments will render any thread unreadable because 99% of the comments will be just valueless words. We already see a lot of low quality posts made by users trying to reach Trust Level 1.
GM GM TronLive, Kudos to you for always considering community contribution and matter arising.
My personal POV on the following
For the tagged Pure voters, as far as they not bot or duplicate account, maybe more requirements to vote.
Example. Must have certain number of comments on current voting session.
I support the idea of EARLY PROJECT SUBMISSION, EARLY PROJECT ATTENTION FROM MEMBERS AND POTENTIAL USERS.
I still support @fabsltsa some projects need complete readiness to make a post, which can land them making post at last minutes.
I feel, project at the last minute submission with less or no significant updates should not e considered.
Demo week is good Idea to get in live touch with the project team to know more on their current state of development, could be exposure medium for project to.
Big support from Tron is important too.
Generally, we have energy market at increasing cost, especially for newbies users who can’t afford good amount of TRX to stake for energy.
Also not too good for newbies developers building on Tron, making it high cost for their smart contracts building.
For, me A seller POV:- it’s okay for me. More sales. Lols
Lols, the minimum salary, varies within states in Nigeria.
For my state, should be that range.
Please don’t check online for the Nigeria average salary pay, so misleading.
The real ones, are the citizens live share and experience.
So, would be difficult for this unbanked to join crypto with high cost of fees that wound tax their average pay away
I understand your concern on this but if we look at the advantage, we will consider it more appropriate measure to curbing some of the issues we’ve been experiencing during hackathons. Issues like participants mobilising mobs solely for voting, participants creating multiple accounts and advocating their community to do the same for the sole purpose of maxing out votes. Remember, it’s not possible to solve the whole problems of life. Rather, you can use an approach of creating a lesser problem to solve a more severe one
This is why I always tell my foreign friends seeking knowledge of situations in Nigeria not to hope of Google searches. There are a lot of manipulated statistics in there Just find a trusted friend living in the country and ask them the current situations in the land.
The best way to avoid bot voters is to only allows real users of TROn/BTTC. Only on chain stakers must be allowed to vote. In example, a user with 1000 trx staked on the network should be eligible to vote. Not many people will agree to my this point.
Teams entering the hackathon late but during the submission period is fine. But it is their loss as not many community members will be able to engage with the project.
Community will surely attend these spaces. I think more awareness is needed about this demo week.
Once I am sure that a dapp is safe I will only hold back on interacting with the smart contracts because of costs.
I think trondao team should be in touch with big exchanges like binance and ask them not to stake in bulk for energy. As it lowers the energy levels of small users like me. In the past when czbinance was incharge binance team staked a massive amount of trx for energy but once czbinance was made aware of it through a post made by @Deba215 their team immediately unstaked the trx. But now the binance team is not cooperating to small users in such matter. In my opinion exchanges should only stake their assets if it is actually being staked on their platforms by their users.
I stand that anyone who is eligible for voting should be voted and accommodated except bots should be eliminated without any remorse,… depriving eligible members there voting right is not really encouraging for the growth of the forum , some certain things are rotational which also applies IRL ,some persons who are less active in S1 might turn to be more active in S2 and can also turn out to be sparkling active in S3 and so on…in conclusion, let the room be widely open for any eligible member to cast his or her vote.
In this particular issue voting must not commence in a short period after the end of submission ,so there should another one month for members to compile their reviews. E.g submission deadline 31st May , then voting period starts from 1st July - 7th July.
If the community has make out their time to review and voted for projects am sure it will really interest them to hear from the respective project winners & their teams through Twitter (X) spaces ,… For me am interested and will join in any indicating day . The teams should also make sure to make the announcement on time both in Twitter and forum as well.
The truth is TX on Tron is not really encouraging anymore for an average users secondly most people has no idea about energy and at same time lack the knowledge to interact or rent an energy which is really a barrier to gain more active users on Tron at defi aspect and general,…I think something needs to be done to recalibrate the tx fee on Tron but before then the tron team needs to organize and carry out a massive teachings or education about A -Z on Tron and more about energy on tron.
i think it should be per season not just one time and the user will relax, show up when only it is voting time. If we are all to create account and wait for voting period who will projects interact with. Thanks @Youngyuppie
yeah we are not saying they should stay active every season, personally i am saying you will be allow to vote the season you are active.
We should note, this is not our countries voting that one just need a voting card and go to poling station to cast his or her vote. If this is how it is i think you should make it clear. We have projects with communities and they always do well in voting. We are encouraging community building and activeness. community is part of this hackatron to help shape tron ecosystem as whole, that’s why trondao rewards community members. Help analyze submissions and help choose well deserved projects through voting. So if you to wait till voting time, how will you vote for those who are truly building. Or you will vote by project names based on past performance lol
